Saving Energy in the Home

Saving energy is important, for our energy bills and for the planet. We all have a joint responsibility to save energy wherever we can, and there are some really simple ways to cut down on the energy you use – here are some hints and tips:

  • Switch off electrical appliances at the plug at night. This could include the television, kettles and toasters and radios. This will ensure they are properly switched off and not on standby mode.
  • Remember to turn off lights. Whilst this might sound simple, it’s so easy to forget to turn lights off when you leave a room. Make it a habit and then it will become easier.
  • Put your washing machine on a shorter cycle. Don’t always use the longest one automatically.
  • Wash up instead of using the dishwasher. A dishwasher uses a lot of energy, so try washing up sometimes to help cut down and save some money.
